COMPLICATIONS OF CERVICAL RADIATION

TREATMENT OF CERVICAL CANCER

Often, effective treatment of cervical cancer may require radiation treatment as part of the strategy to totally destroy the malignancy before it has a chance to migrate to other tissues. Radiation treatment of the lower abdomen can result in small bowel or anal inflammation. This may appear after several months or a year with no symptoms.

Bleeding, abnormal connections between any combinations of the bowel, vagina, bladder, rectum, and exterior skin create the potential for life-threatening infections.

Hyperbaric oxygen treatment has completely or significantly resolved post-radiation bleeding and vaginal tissue death for numerous patients, drastically reducing the need for transfusion.

HYPERBARIC OXYGEN THERAPY resolves symptoms for up to 75 percent of patients.
